What is keyword density?
Keyword density is the share of words on a page taken up by a particular word or phrase: (occurrences × words in the phrase) ÷ total words × 100. A two-word phrase used 10 times in a 1,000-word article has a density of 2%.
Is there an ideal keyword density?
No. Google has never published a target, and modern search engines understand synonyms and topics. Use density as a sanity check instead:
- Your main topic should be among the top phrases — if it isn't, the page may be unfocused.
- A single phrase above roughly 3% often reads as repetitive and can look like keyword stuffing.
- Related 2- and 3-word phrases show whether you cover the topic in depth.
FAQ
Keyword Density Checker FAQ
What is a good keyword density?
There is no magic number. Most well-written pages land between 0.5% and 2.5% for their main phrase. Write for readers first and use the tool to catch overuse.
Which words are excluded?
Common English stopwords such as "the", "and", "of", "to" and pronouns, plus numbers and single letters, so the meaningful phrases rise to the top.
Can I analyze a competitor's page?
Yes. Switch to URL and enter any public page. We download it once, strip scripts and navigation markup and analyze the visible text.
Is my text stored?
No. Pasted text is analyzed in memory and discarded immediately after the results are shown.
