How it works
How to use the website speed checker
- 1
Enter a URL
Paste the full address of the page you want to test.
- 2
Google tests it
PageSpeed Insights loads the page on a simulated mobile and desktop device (about 20–40 seconds).
- 3
Fix what matters
Focus on metrics marked red or orange first — they hurt users and rankings most.
What the scores mean
The performance score (0–100) comes from Lighthouse, Google's lab testing tool. 90–100 is good, 50–89 needs improvement and below 50 is poor. Mobile scores are almost always lower because the test simulates a mid-range phone on a slower connection.
Core Web Vitals
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — how quickly the main content appears. Good: 2.5 seconds or less.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) — how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks. Good: 200 ms or less.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) — how much the layout jumps around while loading. Good: 0.1 or less.
When enough Chrome users have visited a page, Google also reports real-user (field) data from the Chrome UX Report. Field data is what Google uses for its page experience signals, so it carries more weight than the lab score.
FAQ
Website Speed Checker FAQ
Why is my mobile score lower than desktop?
Mobile tests simulate a slower CPU and network, so heavy JavaScript, large images and web fonts hurt much more. Optimize for mobile first.
What is a good PageSpeed score?
90 or higher is good, 50–89 needs improvement and below 50 is poor. Passing Core Web Vitals in the field matters more than a perfect lab score.
Why does my score change between tests?
Lab tests vary with server response time, ads, third-party scripts and network conditions. Run a few tests and look at the trend.
Why is there no field data?
Google only publishes real-user data for pages with enough Chrome traffic. New or low-traffic pages show lab data only.
